Connecting an assistant through MCP
CutroomOS can give an authorized assistant access to parts of your library through a local MCP server. Access is off by default, scoped per connection, read-only and revocable.
Before you connect
A “local server” describes where the connection starts on your Mac. It is not a promise that indexing or answers run entirely offline. CutroomOS does not open your Mac to the internet.
Create a connection
- In the Mac app, open Agent connections. It explains what library data an assistant can receive and that the assistant’s provider may process returned information.
- Create a named connection and choose the client.
- Choose grants: which folders or videos, and which evidence categories.
- Follow the setup instructions the app generates for that client and transport.
- Test the connection with an allowed sample. The app shows success and the last connected time.
Grants are per connection
Each connection has its own scope. An assistant does not inherit every folder you can see. Adding a folder to your library later does not expand an existing grant unless you chose an all-current-and-future scope for that connection.
| Category | Includes |
|---|---|
| Metadata | Filenames, folders, durations, index status within scope |
| Transcripts and answers | Recognized speech, search results and cited answers |
| Derived imagery | Frames or thumbnails, only when granted |
Scope is enforced before retrieval and again when evidence is resolved. Results never include filenames, counts or citations from folders outside the grant.
What an assistant can and cannot do
At launch, access is read-only. An assistant cannot delete, move, rename, export or write files, and cannot start indexing. Search and question calls may use processing, which is disclosed separately from file access.
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
get_library_status | Permitted coverage and source availability |
list_videos / get_video | Browse allowed metadata |
search_clips | Find matching moments with citations and app links |
ask_library | Ask a cited question within scope |
get_transcript | Read permitted speech evidence for a time range |
get_evidence | Resolve a citation to its allowed evidence |
get_task | Track longer work |
Footage content is data, not instructions
Text in videos and transcripts can contain anything, including instructions. CutroomOS returns it as source data. It never grants permissions or runs actions because of what a recording says.
Disable or revoke
Agent connections lists each client, its scope, permission summary and recent request metadata. Disable or revoke a connection at any time. Revocation stops ongoing work and future evidence requests; it cannot recall information the assistant already received. Removing a folder from your library also revokes assistant access to it.
