Privacy and data

Your originals stay put. Here is what moves.

A plain-language account of how CutroomOS treats your footage. The privacy policy has the full legal detail.

Three places your data can be.

Select a category for a plain-language explanation. Access and retention are separate questions.

Intelligence services

Only for recordings you index or questions you ask

Your Mac

Folders you linked

Also kept on your Mac: the library inventory, playback and local caches.

Your assistant

Only through a connection you created

Permitted derivatives, after you consent

Granted evidence only, read-only

Derived data

When you index a recording, CutroomOS sends derived data for cloud processing under a random video ID: the audio track, still frames (about one per second), keyframes and thumbnails. File names and folder paths stay on your Mac, unless you share them with an AI assistant through MCP.

Transcripts, on-screen text and search indexes are created from that data and kept until you remove the video. We never use any of it to train AI models.

The app explains this before indexing starts. You can browse your library without indexing anything.

Access

Who can use the data right now. You control it: folders, indexing and assistant grants can each be changed or revoked.

Retention

How long copies are kept by services and in backups after access ends: derived data until you remove a video, then deleted within 30 days; backups within 13 months.

Private beta sign-up

When you sign up for the private beta, we save your email address, your optional workflow choice, the plan you selected (if any), and when and where you signed up. We use these details to arrange private beta invitations.

Joining does not upload any videos, create a paid account or start a subscription. We will email you when a beta place opens; signing up does not grant immediate app access.

We keep sign-ups until the private beta ends, or sooner if you ask to be removed. This website measures basic, anonymous traffic without cookies. With your permission in the cookie banner, it also uses cookies and session recordings, in which form fields are masked.

Monitoring during the private beta

While CutroomOS is in private beta, we monitor service logs and requests so we can spot problems such as failed indexing, errors or slow responses, and fix them quickly.

Those logs record how the service is working — timings, statuses, errors and app versions — not what is in your footage. We do not look at your videos, frames, audio, transcripts, searches, questions or answers when we monitor the service. Logs are kept for up to 90 days.

Your originals

Linking a folder gives CutroomOS permission to read it. Your original files are never uploaded, and your folders are never reorganized.

Removing a folder from CutroomOS never deletes the videos in it. The app shows what will be removed from the library and which assistant grants will be revoked before you confirm.

Derived data and indexing

“Your originals stay here” is not the same as “nothing leaves your Mac”. Indexing sends derived material to our cloud processing so that recordings become searchable.

Indexing is something you choose per recording or per folder. Automatic indexing of new videos is available only after you have consented to indexing.

The app is designed so routine analytics never include filenames, paths, query text, transcripts or frames. Diagnostic reports, when available, will be opt-in and shown to you before they are sent.

Questions and answers

Search queries are sent when you submit them, not on every keystroke. Questions in Analyze, with the evidence selected for them, are sent to our AI model provider to write the answer.

Intelligence features need their services to be reachable. Without a connection you can still browse your inventory and play local files; CutroomOS does not promise fully offline intelligence.

Assistant scope

The MCP server is off until you create a connection. Each connection has its own folders, categories and revocation state.

Grants are enforced before retrieval and again when evidence is resolved, so a response is designed never to include filenames, counts or citations from folders that were not granted.

Text and speech inside your footage are treated as source data. Instructions that appear in a recording never change what an assistant is permitted to access.

Retention and deletion

How long each kind of data is kept. The privacy policy has the full detail, including our service providers.

  • Derived data, transcripts and search indexes: kept while the video is in your library, deleted from active systems within 30 days of removal.
  • Intermediate search and answer results: about 24 hours.
  • Service logs: up to 90 days.
  • Backups: deleted data leaves backups within 13 months.
  • Private beta sign-ups: until the beta ends, or sooner on request.
